Megan Baker House High Sheriff Grant
Megan Baker House is one of the groups awarded a WCF High Sheriff grant at the end of Louise Hewett’s shrieval year.
Megan Baker House provides conductive education sessions for children and adults with motor disorders such as cerebral palsy, developmental coordination disorder (DCD), Parkinson’s, stroke, acquired brain injury, and other movement disorders. Participants learn how to manage and deal with the difficulties caused by their condition enabling them to be more independent.
Each individual costs £2,500 per year to support. The grant of £3,000 from WCF’s High Sheriff Fund helped the organisation with their core costs.
The following quote from a parent shows just how important their support is:
“MBH are the only people that have been there for my son.”
Development Director, Lee Gough reports ‘S’ age 3 with bilateral spastic cerebral palsy, has gone from strength to strength. Every week she gets to develop her speaking, fine motor skills, listening skills, personal care skills and physical skills. Her posture, strength and muscle has improved dramatically. When S first started at Megan Baker House, she refused to lay on her tummy but now lays on it all the time. She is able to concentrate for longer, listens to instructions really well and has learned her left from her right.
