Elgar Festival 2023
This year’s Elgar Festival ‘We are the music makers’ was a call to action embracing everyone in our community to join a week of celebration, collaboration and participation inspired by the life and music of local composer, Edward Elgar. Supported by WCF’s donor-led Arts and Mental Health Fund, the largest number yet of community-based amateur singers and instrumentalists took part in concerts throughout the week with the aim of increasing access, inclusivity and education.
‘Elgar for Everyone’ was at the heart of the Festival, providing a programme of concerts, masterclasses, workshops, educational initiatives, talks, film, exhibitions, a new annual Featured Composer (Michael Berkeley in ‘23), and the inaugural Elgar Festival Young Composers Competition. Altogether there were twenty events over six days in eight separate locations. These included a live performance by Worcester Concert Brass in Cathedral Square Worcester, a free open concert by Worcestershire Symphony Orchestra in the Guildhall and Conducting Masterclasses at Elgar’s Birthplace, The Firs.
