Tom Jones Fund Sponsors D-Day Fundraiser
Worcestershire Community Foundation hosts the Tom Jones In Memorium Fund in memory of Worcester University student, Tom ‘Jonah’ Jones, from Bromsgrove who died in a tragic accident in the River Severn in September 2018, aged just eighteen. Tom’s Fund’s main aim is to provide sports-related opportunities to all children and young adults reflecting Tom’s passion for sport.
Tom was a fan of West Bromwich Albion FC and Tom’s Fund is pleased to be sponsoring a 1,000 km cycle ride to raise funds for the club’s charity, The Albion Foundation.
Another fan, Dave Heeley, affectionately known as ‘Blind Dave’ has raised over £3m for The Albion Foundation and is now setting off on another adventure.
Blind Dave has put together a cycling team to ride 1,000 km along the Western Front Way which follows the First World War trench line from the Swiss/French border to the Belgian Front. The event will be held between 21st and 28th September finishing on the beaches of Dunkirk where commemorations take place this summer to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day.
80 years after the D-Day landings, the team aims to raise £80,000 for the Albion Foundation, whose vision is to create “A Proud Albion Family, Engaged, Inspired and Achieving Its Potential’. The money raised will go towards supporting children and young people to engage in sport, many of whom have disabilities.
