Louise Hewett appointed new High Sheriff of Worcestershire
Worcestershire’s High Sheriff for 23/24 is Louise Hewett DL, a well-known and much respected business leader who founded and ran Hewett Recruitment for many years. Her Declaration Ceremony took place on the 30th March 2023 at the Shire Hall Worcester in the presence of High Court Judge, the Honourable Mr Justice Pepperall, distinguished guests, family and friends. She takes over the role from Andrew Manning-Cox.
The office of High Sheriff is an independent, non-political Royal appointment for a period of one year. After the monarchy, it is the oldest secular office in the country, dating back to before the Norman Conquest.
The role is voluntary and today is largely ceremonial but carries the status of being the Queen’s highest judicial officer in the county and involves a mix of ceremonial, charitable and community functions.
Louise will be organising exciting fundraising events and activities throughout her year. She welcomes support from Worcestershire’s businesses and individual philanthropists to ensure that local communities really benefit from her work.
Louise said:
“I am honoured to be appointed High Sheriff of Worcestershire in His Majesty the King’s Coronation year.”
“During my 41 years as founder of Hewett Recruitment, I enjoyed using my influence and network whenever possible to bring key people together enabling me to initiate an award-winning programme for disadvantaged children and others, initiatives that simply aimed to help young people to reach their full potential.”
“I love living in this county, with all it has to offer. However I am acutely aware through my ongoing connections with local charities, that there are still areas of great need and, of course, our children and young people are where it starts – they are our future!”
“I will use this honourable position to learn more from those organisations and services that work so hard within the resources available to them. I will continue to bring key people together, to support, advise and recognise their achievements. If I can make a little magic happen along the way, I will.”
During her year Louise will be raising funds for local charities who support vulnerable young people and children in Worcestershire via WCF’s High Sheriff Fund.
