#iwill social action at Oasis Community Hub Warndon
Oasis Community Hub Warndon is a place where local people can call in for advice, company, emergency food and clothing. WCF’s #iwill grant supported the #Love Warndon Young Volunteers project for young people to develop their life skills and explore opportunities for social action in the communities where they live. It is a superb example of how this funding helped young people make a real difference in their community.
As part of the project, the Hub’s ‘Fun Squad’ started their own after-school youth club and enjoyed various activities including an art trip to Croome Court, Aztec Ropes Course and Crazy Golf. They delivered a Christmas fundraiser using half the proceeds to purchase gifts for under-privileged children. Also a new Community Kitchen Club was developed for young people to volunteer for Warndon Kitchen which provides healthy meals to the community. The young people produced four community meals completely on their own; from menu planning to serving and an entire Christmas dinner to a church youth group. They also hosted an afternoon of cultural engagement as part of Worcester Paint Festival and presented their groups’ activities and ideas for the future to the Hub Councillors.
Fay Osborne, Hub Leader said:
“We cannot thank you enough for this funding as it launched our youth program that will now continue to make a difference in our community.”
One participant’s parent said:
“Thank you for all you do with her and the other young people. It is wonderful to see. Since her brother died she has not been the same, but your group has done her wonders. She has excelled being with you and she has so much respect towards you. I can’t put into words how grateful I am.”
