Congratulations to the Myriad Centre on their £10,000 grant
Congratulations to Worcester based charity, the Myriad Centre, on their £10,000 grant from WCF’s Dr Carl Ellson Clinical Innovation Fund for their Voices Unlocked project ‘Empowering Adults with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities’.
The Fund was set up in memory of Worcestershire GP, Dr Carl Ellson, who passed away in July 2022. Carl spent his life working tirelessly to transform healthcare in Worcestershire by promoting innovative ideas which inspired many young clinicians to ensure Worcestershire patients receive the best possible care.
The Myriad Centre provides person-centred day respite services for those over 18 living with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities. Clients with PMLD are supported at their day centre through specialised physical, emotional and psychological care.
The grant will help the Myriad Centre become a Centre of Excellence for Communication, ensuring the voices of adults with PMLD are heard. They will:
- Conduct new communication assessments for each client.
- Implement the resources individuals need, including the use of technology.
- Deliver further staff training in communication methods.
They will also:
- Create a Specialised Training Programme to share with other organisations in Worcestershire.
- Partner with existing networks to create Worcestershire-specific initiatives.
- Run an advocacy and awareness campaign to raise awareness of the need for improved communication services for adults with PMLD.
