Working in collaboration with the emergency services, Worcestershire Community Foundation has set up the Worcestershire Emergency Fund to support individuals and communities who have suffered the impact of a major incident within the County.
We know that in the event of a major emergency, many people will be generous in their desire to help those who most affected, so this Fund will provide a way for them to donate.
Our challenge is to make sure that the money is spent where it is most needed. To achieve this, we have arrangements in place with local organisations, such as the Citizens Advice Bureau and Age UK, which already offer public services and have local knowledge and expertise. However we will seek to also engage with any organisation that can make a difference during any actual emergency.
WHEN THE COUNTY EXPERIENCES AN EMERGENCY THIS WEBSITE'S HOMEPAGE WILL FEATURE IMMEDIATE INFORMATION ABOUT THE EMERGENCY AND DETAILS OF HOW TO ACCESS AND GIVE TO THE EMERGENCY FUND.
'I am delighted that the Worcestershire Community Foundation, working in collaboration with the emergency services, has established the Worcestershire Emergency Fund. This will give support and relief to those suffering the effects of a major incident.
The lives of the people of Worcestershire have been disrupted by major incidents in the past, and we know that, no matter how much we plan to avoid them, problems will occur in the future. Flooding immediately comes to mind but we have suffered the effects of foot and mouth disease, transport disruption and other issues in the past, and in these uncertain days the prospect of terrorist acts must be added to the list of possibilities.
When faced with such problems the generosity of the people of Worcestershire shines bright. The Emergency Fund will provide a mechanism for donations from the public and businesses to be brought together to ensure that we use the money given as efficiently and effectively as possible and with the lowest possible administrative cost.
Once funds are collected, the Community Foundation's existing grant awarding systems will come into play to ensure that help goes where it is most needed quickly and efficiently.
I feel that it is of great benefit that the people of Worcestershire can now feel a little bit more secure because of the Community Foundation's work on this.'
